This is one of my mum’s favourite sayings…!

These days, it makes me think of social media.

Many of the best people I know hate social media with a passion. Hate the people blowing their own trumpets. Talking about their achievements. All the BS.

I get it.

And there’s a big part of me that agrees with my mum that the people who tend to shout the loudest about their achievements, those who talk the most and who take up the most space in the room, often don’t have as much substance to back it up as you might think.

At the same time, social media can be a great tool to get people to understand who you are and what you’re about.

(And no, I am not going to start going on about being ‘authentic’. I am so sick of that term…!)

And while I hate it when people take up loads of airtime (e.g. those people at parties who think that conversation is about them delivering monologues about their life and achievements to you – I’m sure you know the sort…) with little regard for other people and what they might want to say…

…I do also think that hiding your light under a bushel is not the way to go either.

I understand why some people hate social media. But it can be a really useful tool. And a point of real connection with people you’ve never met.

And whether you’re on social media or not, it’s important that we all understand what we’re about as people, who we are and that we learn to express that and are able to encapsulate it.

Because that can help us in work pitches, in job interviews, in general conversation, whatever.

Therapy and coaching is a great way of helping you find that understanding.

And what about us at The Carvalho Consultancy? How would we encapsulate what we’re about?

Well, we’re about straightforwardness and practicality. We do not get lost in highfalutin theories that bear little relation to the real hard stuff of life.

We all have a great deal of experience of working in high-level professional services. And we team that with years of therapeutic training.

We’re also about depth.

And we’re about nuance.

We’re not about ridiculous slogans  (“live, love, dance” anyone?! ) . We won’t tell you “you got this” as if that’s the magic solution to everything.

So whether it’s for training, therapy, coaching or couples counselling, come and talk to us.

Because we’re a kettle with a lot of liquid in it (OK, now I’m stretching the metaphor too far…)
