Please don’t take me the wrong way… I don’t mean to sound harsh…

BUT…all those posts on social media urging us to “go easy” on ourselves, imploring us “YOU ARE ENOUGH!”, encouraging us to dial down our expectations, telling us that “if all we did last year was get out of bed in the morning, that’s enough…”

Do they really help?

They might make us feel a tiny bit reassured in the moment but do they *really* have any lasting impact?

At The Carvalho Consultancy we are a group of counsellors and psychotherapists who share a common ethos.

Here’s what we *don’t* believe in:

Meaningless platitudes
Slogans that sound good in the moment but have little of substance to back them up
Pretending to our clients that there are easy solutions to tricky issues
Telling our clients “you got this” as a supposed salve to all problems

Here is what we *do* believe in:

Creating meaningful and helpful relationships with our clients
The power of deep psychological understanding to effect change
Collaborating with our clients, helping them to identify and work on the things that bother them
Helping them apply practical adjustments and changes to move towards the future they want

Yes, we believe in gentleness
In kindness and compassion towards self

But there is a whole lot more than that to psychotherapy and counselling.

Our counsellors and therapists have years of therapeutic training behind them.

And they’ve all had previous careers in high-pressure industries (law, accountancy, the media, teaching, family/child services in case you’re interested!)

So, would you rather speak to someone with credibility, practical nous and deep psychological understanding of what you’re going through?

Or someone who will chuck easy slogans and affirmations at you with little to back it up…?

Let me know in the comments (or get in touch!)
