It’s normal to hide in the toilet at conferences!
Anyone who knows me knows I’m no introvert…
And yet even the most people-orientated of us feel awkward at times.
We get overwhelmed by being around people all day.
We need to take some downtime.
That’s why you can often find me at conferences taking five minutes in the toilet to catch up on my showbiz news (don’t judge me), text my husband about the plans for the kids and just take a bit of time to decompress.*
I recommend it to anyone.
Regardless of my slightly odd proclivities, the last few days have been fabulous at the ThoughtLeaders4 Private Client | TL4PC conference in Versailles.
What a great community Rupert Ticehurst and Stella Mitchell-Voisin are building.
It’s no mean feat to create a genuinely interactive, lively, holistic conference for lawyers and trustees but they managed it.
All the speakers were fantastic, varied, fun.
And I was touched by the comments after my somewhat unusual talk with Andrea Zavos on addiction and our own experiences.
The beautiful thing you find if you open up (and sometimes feel like a slightly exposed wally at times in the process) is this:
People come to you afterwards and share their experiences with addiction. Family, friends, colleagues, themselves. It’s amazing.
The tentacles of this illness spread far and wide and I believe greater openness is an important step forward in all this. Especially in the legal world where we’re all so bloody high achieving and perfect…
So thank you to ThoughtLeaders4 Private Client | TL4PC for a beautifully arranged conference and a great few days.
And thank you to everyone there for your humanity and warmth.
*Sincere apologies to anyone who might have been waiting to use the loo or who was concerned that I may have a bowel condition or some sort!
