I really enjoyed providing training to pro bono lawyers at Norton Rose Fulbright yesterday on ‘Working with vulnerable clients and taking care of yourself’.
No mean feat of course!
Pro bono work is often one of the most meaningful aspects of lawyers’ careers. At the same time, it can be difficult to manage emotionally, given the needs of the clients and the material that lawyers are exposed to.
In this session, I went through a taster of psychology and neuroscience and the core skills to use when working with vulnerable, stressed and traumatised clients.
And crucially of course, provided ideas on how to take care of yourself emotionally when doing this work.
We at The Carvalho Consultancy are proud to partner with firms like Norton Rose Fulbright who are committed to providing pro bono support to projects, both locally-based and those with a geographically wider remit.
